3x Pinot Noir from Astrolabe Wines - Marlborough, New Zealand
1x Astrolabe Wrekin Pinot Noir 2016 75cl
Vines are closely planted and low-cropping. This small production highlights the individual expression of this site. Just 558 bottles were made. All grapes are hand-picked, de-stemmed and fermented with wild yeast and aged in three French oak barrels for nine months, The selected barrels were blended and aged for an additional nine months in old oak puncheons. Bob Campbell, MW, The Real Review scored this wine 93 points.
1x Astrolabe Comelybank Waihopai Valley Pinot Noir 2015 75cl
The Pinot Noir at Comelybank is the site at the lower reaches of the Waihopai Valley where the fruit for Astrolabe’s first Marlborough pinot noir came. Only 534 bottles were made. Traditional winemaking techniques of hand picking, wild fermentation with the natural yeast, managing the fermentation cap by hand and extended oak aging are used to give a true expression of this single vineyard. Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, The Real Review scored this wine 95 points.
1x Astrolabe Sleepers Kekerengu Coast Pinot Noir 2016 75cl
Sleepers Vineyard, on the Kekerengu Coast, is Astrolable’s most unique. The limestone soil provides minerality, and the cooler climate has a profound effect. Only 546 bottles were made. The winemaking process follows time-honoured methods. The fruit was picked by hand and fermented in small open-top vats using the wild vineyard yeast with hand plunging of the cap and it spends two winters aging in French oak. Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, The Real Review scored this wine 95 points.
Generously donated by the Waghorn family.
